I read this article in the New York Post.
Basically, it says the following;
“Are you sexually active?” If so, with one partner, multiple partners, or same-sex partners? Be ready to answer those questions and more the next time you go to the doctor, whether it’s the dermatologist or the cardiologist and no matter if the questions are unrelated to why you’re seeking medical help. And you can thank the Obama health law….. The president’s “reforms” aim to turn doctors into government agents, pressuring them financially to ask questions they consider inappropriate and unnecessary, and to violate their Hippocratic Oath to keep patients’ records confidential….. starting in 2015, they’ll face financial penalties from Medicare and Medicaid….. and the data will not be confidential….. requiring everyone to have health insurance and then imposing penalties on insurers, doctors and hospitals who don’t use the one-click electronic system, the law is violating Americans’ medical privacy.
The administration is ignoring these protests from privacy advocate….. On Jan. 17, HHS announced patients who want to keep something out of their electronic record should pay cash.”
I am quoting this (in part) above, as a warning against how this may not be accurate. And according to “PolitiFact”, the organization that weeds this sort of stuff out, it’s simply not true. You can read what they have to say about it here.
The bottom line is, investigate! Don’t take anyone’s word for anything! Maybe the NY Post got it right. But stories, even big stories, have often taken on a life of their own, when someones lie about, or simple misunderstanding of an issue gets repeated enough. It starts by people hearing stuff from people they know and trust and they just believe it. But many times, the only person you can trust, is the one who says; “I don’t know”.
It does prove the old saying though; “If you tell a lie loud enough and long enough, people will believe it!”.
I don’t think the author in the NY Post intentionally lied. And who knows? Maybe he’ll end up being right! But the NYP certainly is “big” enough and now this story certainly will be circulated enough! So both the criteria are met!
See how easy it is to be misguided? Even if he’s right, that means another “biggie” (PolitiFact) is wrong and their story is going to be well circulated, so…..
My advice to you?
Observe the ferret. What a nose for stuff! :)
